Here a few photos of RIGS that I saw in Berck this week:

Frank's RIG based on a Sony A7R camera (close to 2.000€ for the body only) You better be sure!

 A 360 degrees camera based on 4 GoPRos from James Gentles.

A very nice remote control setup from René Maier. Especially the downlink (5,4 Mhz) with two types of antennas got my attention

A very low cost KAP RIG made by "Garder le KAP".

 I was surprised by the different adjustments you can make

A heavy duty electrical winch pulling a line of 2 ton.

An other way of kite aerial Photography: You just pull a camera and the photographer into the sky with these udge kites.

 

 

Wervik

Het project Streekvertelsels wordt feestelijk geopend op zondag 21 april 2013 met een grote vliegerhappening  op het natuurdomein De Balokken, Wervik.

Leerkrachten en leerlingen van de academie voor beeldende kunst Wervik, Geluwe en Menen maakten voor deze gelegenheid vele soorten handgemaakte ‘kites’.

Deze kites worden opgelaten, onder de deskundige leiding van Bert Maetens van www.B-kites.blogspot.be ,  op een symbolische plaats, een eiland pal op de grens tussen Frankrijk en België en tussen de oude en de nieuwe Leie.

 

Met een lange slinger van tientallen vliegertjes willen we  letterlijk en symbolisch een brug slaan over de grens. Met deze happening formuleren de vliegeraars een antwoord op het starre karakter van de grens: een fluctuerende beweging van de vliegers heft de constructie van een grens op.

 

Op het natuurdomein Balokken kun je op zondag 21 april 2013 van 14h tot 18h  onze vliegers komen bewonderen en  nodigen we jong en oud uit om hun vlieger mee te brengen en de lucht bont te kleuren!

Grenzen scheiden. Grenzen definiëren. Grenzen structureren. Grenzen bepalen hoeveel belastingen je betaalt. Grenzen bepalen je dagelijkse leven.

De grens met Frankrijk loopt als een scheiding door onze achtertuin.
Maar vliegers houden zich niet aan grenzen.

Transport bedrijf De Block in Beveren

Bouwbedrijf Floré in Beveren vanop een hoogte van 100 meter, gefotografeerd met een camera die onder een standvlieger bevestigd was.

It's always so much fun to open the door for the postman bringing in a box with new kite , shipped all the way from England by Karl Longbottom.

First test flight of the Black Jordan with a temporary tail of 10 meters.

I still have to do some cosmetics at the trailing edge. (Cut away away the extra fabric)

Newborn

Finally I had the time to make the maiden flight with the tattoo butterfly kite.

A 5 Panel rokkaku kite.

We used 70kg bridleline. Two times 2 skyshark rods for the spreader and a  8mm carbon fiber for the spine. We cut the carbon rod for the spine in two pieces of 82,5(that is the same lenght as a standard skyshark rod) and 1 piece of 15cm.  That is adding weight but now it's easier to carry on my next trip.
Total weight is 600 gr.

My Wau

 Wau, received as a present of Danny Kiteman.  Brought it with from my trip to Malaysia and Borneo. It was very difficult to get it in and out of the taxi. I was surprised that it was so easy to go through customs without passing through the scanner. (It was to big).

Palace of justice

KAP = Kite aerial photography: Taking pictures from a low altitude using a remote controlled camera (in this case a Canon G12) lifted by a kite.

This KAP pictures was printed at 1,5 meter by 1 meter.

It's hanging now in the palace of justice as part of the permanent collection.

The long way home

The huge income hall in the new palace of justice is becoming my standard indoor kite field. This weekend I was able to make some basic videos of the "long way home" kite.
